(ANSA) - ROME, OCT 9 - Economy Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti
on Wednesday warned that, while pro-capita GDP was growing,
Italy's GDP wasn't, addressing the Lower House during a debate
on the Structural Budget Plan.
"We have become a mass distinguished society in which pro capita
GDP is growing but not Italy's aggregated" gross domestic
product.
"I want to reflect about this here, because when in a few days
we will be making choices regarding the budget law, we need to
think long-term, including about new generations", noted the
minister.
"I stress here that there is a clear correlation between
demography and GDP growth", said Giorgetti.
He noted that a country like Italy with a declining population,
which is "losing 300,000-400,000 Italian citizens each year,
can't imagine a growth of 3.4% or 5%". (ANSA).
