(ANSA) - ROME, OCT 9 - Premier Giorgia Meloni is "lying to
the country" when she says she won't raise taxes because a move
bringing diesel duties close into line with petrol ones
effectively means raising taxes and belies her promising to cut
fuel duties a few year ago, centre-left opposition Democratic
Party (PD) leader Elly Schlein said Wednesday.
"We all remember Meloni in front of the gas station making a
show of promising that she would cut excise duties," she said.
"Meloni should now explain this new tax to the country. Even
today we saw her on video lying openly to the country while it
is written here in a document approved by the cabinet, the
(Strategic Budget Plan), on page 116", said Schlein in her
declaration of vote on an employment bill, citing from SBP "the
alignment of excise duty rates for diesel and petrol". (ANSA).
