No new taxes in 2025 budget promises Giorgetti

(ANSA) - ROME, OCT 12 - Economy Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti promised on Saturday that the government's 2025 budget law will not feature any new taxes after previous comments he made about the need for sacrifices sparked controversy.
    "There will certainly not be more taxes," Giorgetti told an event organized by daily newspaper Il Foglio.
    "We are cutting taxes, not just promising it. Just look at what we did in the last budget law.
    "Cuts to the labour-tax wedge, which everyone judged to be impossible or temporary, will become structural.
    "Over the last few days there have been a series of misinterpretations.
    "It's necessary to wait until Tuesday (when the budget is presented) and then everything will be clearer".
    He warned his fellow ministers, however, that they must make cuts or "I will play the villain.
    "We must make sacrifices and forego some useless programmes," he added.
    Sources said that the government is aiming to free up three billion euros in funding via a review of public spending.
