(ANSA) - ROME, OCT 12 - Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister
Antonio Tajani on Saturday demanded that Israel provide answers
over this week's attacks on the headquarters of the UNIFIL
mission in Lebanon and two of its Italian bases.
The United Nations mission said Saturday that a fifth
peacekeeper has been injured after two Indonesian soldiers were
wounded in tank fire on a watchtower at its main Naqoura base on
Thursday and two Sri Lankans were hurt on Friday.
The fifth injured peacekeeper is another Indonesian, sources
said.
"We want to know whether it was a political choice or the choice
of the military on the ground," Tajani told an event organized
by daily newspaper Il Foglio.
"Our military personnel are not Hezbollah terrorists and we are
friends of Israel. We are waiting for answers from the Israeli
enquiry.
"We have been asking the Israeli government for guarantees for
weeks and we have been given assurances, but there have been too
many attacks on UNIFIL soldiers. There have been injuries.
"The Italian military must not be touched". (ANSA).
