(ANSA) - ROME, OCT 14 - A reported 166,525 accidents on
Italy's roads in 2023 involving injuries to people - compared to
165,889 in 2022, up 0.4% - caused 3,039 deaths - from 3,159 in
2022, down 3.
On average, 456 accidents were registered daily with 8.3 deaths
and 615 injuries, the report said.
Although the number of accidents and injuries was slightly
higher than in 2022, fatalities decreased in 2023, according to
the data.
Compared to 2019, the benchmark for the 2021-2030 decade,
accidents shrank by 3.3%, road victims by 4.2% and the injured
by 6.9%.
The social cost of road accidents leading to injuries was nearly
18 billion euros in 2023, or 1% of national GDP, the report
