(ANSA) - ROME, OCT 14 - Italy's highest administrative court, the Council of State, on Monday suspended an order from the Regional Administrative Court (TAR) of Abruzzo approving regional authorities' decision to cull 469 deer in the Adriatic region after animal rights group protested.
The high court upheld an appeal filed by the anti-vivisection league (LAV), LNDC Animal Protection and WWF Italia.
In its October 9 ruling the TAR said the Abruzzo deer population had been underestimated and also cited road safety concerns.
The cull was to have started Monday.
The Council of State set a hearing on the case for November 7.
