(ANSA) - ROME, OCT 14 - Italy has fewer kilometres of subway than Madrid , a report from the National Council on Economy and Labour (CNEL) said Monday.
In Italy the subway network is concentrated in 7 Italian cities and has a total extension smaller than that of the city of Madrid alone, said the CNEL report on public services which highlighted the need to "expand the network" and "improve the mobility system on fixed systems that guarantee the movement of large volumes of people quickly and in a sustainable and effective way".
In 2022, CNEL said, out of 100 average daily trips (weekdays), 66.3% were made by car, 18.0% on foot, 4.1% by bicycle and micro-mobility systems, 4.1% by motorbike and only 7.4% by public transport. (ANSA).
