Truck driver who killed Rebellin gets four-year jail term

(ANSA) - ROME, OCT 14 - Wolfgang Rieke, the German truck driver accused of running over and killing former Italian cyclist Davide Rebellin, was given a four-year jail term by a court in Vicenza on Monday. .
    Rebellin, one of Italy's top riders in the 1990s, was killed in the accident at Montebello Vicentino in November 2022.
    Rieke fled the scene of the accident and returned to Germany but was subsequently identified and tracked down by investigators.
    Prosecutors had requested a five-year term.
    Judges had twice rejected a plea bargain for him to serve a jail term of three years, 11 months. (ANSA).
