(ANSA) - ROME, OCT 18 - The head of magistrates union ANM
said Friday that a Rome court that declined to uphold detention
warrants for 12 migrants taken to one of two new controversial
Italian-run processing centres in Albania had simply applied the
rules, agreeing with a European Court of Justice verdict that
their countries of provenance, Bangladesh and Egypt, are not
safe.
"They are judges who apply the rules required by our system and
by the European system of which we are an integral part, the
supranational system prevails and in the case of the decision of
the Rome Court on the detention of migrants in Albania, the
Italian judge took into account that the supranational system
considers Egypt and Bangladesh among the unsafe countries",
Giuseppe Santalucia, president of the National Association of
Magistrates (ANM), told the Tagadà talk show on La7.
