Cornia river breaks banks near Livorno

Rescue operations ongoing

(ANSA) - ROME, OCT 18 - Firefighters in the night between Thursday and Friday carried out rescue operations after the Cornia river broke its banks in the area of Campiglia Marittima near Livorno due to the torrential rain, flooding the nearby countryside as well as a residential area.
    In particular, a retirement home was evacuated.
    The mayor of Campiglia Marittima, Alberta Ticciati, urged residents to shelter in place and move to the top floors of residential buildings.
    Schools remained closed in the area. (ANSA).
