Rain pummels Catania, 'roads like rivers'

(ANSA) - ROME, OCT 19 - Incessant rain on Saturday pummelled the Sicilian city of Catania where roads became rivers, including the central Via Etnea where a scooter was swept away and passersby had to rescue the motorcyclist.
    A video of the impromptu rescue operation went viral on social media on Saturday.
    Meanwhile firefighters carried out some 50 rescue operations, including many to help stranded drivers as several areas of the city were flooded. (ANSA).
