(ANSA) - ROME, OCT 19 - The Salso river broke its banks in
the Sicilian town of Licata near Agrigento on Saturday due to
the incessant rain pummelling the area.
Several residents abandoned their homes as a precautionary
measure while others who were outdoors climbed on the roofs of
cars while firefighters were carrying out a number of operations
to rescue locals.
The Sicilian civil protection unit is sending personnel to the
area, as well as to other provinces hit by bad weather, along
with firefighters from the Gela team. (ANSA).
