'Insults' from organization whose role not everyone grasps

(ANSA) - ROME, OCT 22 - The Council of Europe's European Commission against Racism and Intolerance (ECRI)'s pronouncement that Italian police practise racial profiling of Roma and African people is "unacceptable", Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi said after the CoE body's judgement Tuesday.
"The Council of Europe, whose purpose should be to promote democracy, human rights, European cultural identity and the search for solutions to social problems in European countries, finds the time to express a harsh judgment towards the Italian Police Forces, even going so far as to accuse them of racism," said the minister.
"It is unacceptable that an international organization - whose role not everyone has yet fully understood - should insult women and men who with dedication put their lives at risk every day to guarantee the safety of citizens". (ANSA).
