(ANSA) - ROME, OCT 22 - Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan had a telephone conversation with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni Tueday in which he asked her to back Istanbul's call for stopping arms shipments to Israel amid the Gaza and Lebanon wars.
"Support from Italy could strengthen the initiative launched by Turkey at the UN to stop the shipment of weapons to Israel", his office said.
The Turkish leader added that "Turkey considered Italy's response to Israeli aggression appropriate and stated that it will continue to work for peace in the region", calling the attacks of the Jewish state against Gaza and Lebanon "unacceptable". (ANSA).
