Inter, Milan to build new stadium in San Siro area

(ANSA) - ROME, OCT 22 - Inter and AC Milan intend to build a new stadium in the area of their current home, the San Siro, the city council said after a meeting of the clubs' owners and officials on Tuesday.
    The Serie A giants are set to present an expression of interest to realize a project to build a new stadium and develop the surrounding area, along with guidelines on the 'refunctionalization' of the iconic San Siro, whose official name is the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza.
    The two clubs will buy the 98-year-old stadium and the area from the city council.
    The meeting featured Mayor Giuseppe Sala, managers from Milan owners Redbird Capital Partners and Inter owners Oaktree Capital, Culture Minister Alessandro Giuli and Sports Minister Andrea Abodi. The clubs had presented a plan in 2021 to build a new stadium that was intended to replace the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza But that project never came to fruition, after a regional heritage commission listed aspects of the structure, effectively meaning it could not be demolished.
    That led the two clubs to explore options to create their own homes and last year Milan presented a proposal to build a 70,000-seater stadium at San Donato Milanese, a town near the south of the city. (ANSA).
