We've understood who Filippo Turetta is - Cecchettin dad

Most painful moment was hearing what my daughter went through

(ANSA) - ROME, OCT 25 - The father of Giulia Cecchettin, Gino, told the Venice trial of his daughter's former boyfriend for killing her near Venice last year that "we have now understood who Filippo Turetta is" after the young man admitted planning a murder that shocked Italy and highlighted its problem with femicide and gender-based violence.
"The most painful moment was knowing what my daughter went through in the last moments of her life. But that is not the point of the trial, the point is that we have understood who Filippo Turetta is", he said.
"In fact," Cecchettin continued, "now his lawyer wants to understand more, but for me it is very clear.
"What emerges today is that the life of others is a sacred thing, and we must not get into the merits of the lives of others".
Turetta has admitted to stabbing Cecchettin to death at Fossò, near Venice, on November 11, 2023, days before she was due to graduate from Padua University in biomedical engineering.
The case caused widespread dismay partly because of the brutality of the killing and also because of the young age of the perpetrator and victim.
Prosecutors say Turetta, who was doing the same course as Cecchettin, stabbed her 75 times. (ANSA).
