'Inappropriate' homophobia film won't be screened in school

After Treviso parents protest against movie on homophobia

(ANSA) - ROME, OCT 28 - A film about a 15-year-old high school student who killed himself in 2012 after being bullied will not be screened at a middle school in the northeastern city of Treviso after local parents protested claiming it would have a "negative" impact on their children over the sensitive issues it depicts - homophobia and teen suicide. The screening was originally planned for November 4 and the institute had reserved tickets but the initiative was cancelled at the request of many parents.
However, Mayor Mario Conte has announced he will reschedule the screening, saying cancelling it was a "missed opportunity".
The 2024 movie "Il ragazzo dai pantaloni rosa" (the boy with the pink pants) directed by Margherita Ferri, is based on a novel written by Teresa Manes, mother of Andrea Spezzacatena, Rome's Liceo Cavour student who committed suicide.
It was recently presented at the Rome Film Festival where a group of teen students made homophobic comments during the screening. (ANSA).
