(ANSA) - ROME, NOV 2 - Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister
Antonio Tajani on Saturday congratulated new Conservative leader
Kemi Badenoch after she won the group's leadership contest to
become the first black woman to head a major British political
party.
"Congratulations to Kemi Badenoch, who has been elected the new
leader of the Conservatives," Tajani, the leader of the
centre-right Forza Italia (FI) party, said in a post on X.
"A black woman is bidding to lead the United Kingdom. Good
example of integration".
Tajani linked Badenoch's victory to FI's Ius Italiae (Latin for
Law of Italy) proposal to enable the children of migrants to
become Italian citizens after 10 years of compulsory schooling
here, rather than having to wait until they come of age at 18.
"It's like what the Ius Italiae proposes," Tajani said.
"It is not a left-wing proposal". (ANSA).
