(ANSA) - ROME, NOV 6 - Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi
said on Wednesday that the EU asylum procedure regulation has
set a target of over 8,000 places Italy needs to create by 2026
in order to host migrants as a border country, referring to new
Italian-run centres in Albania.
"We were told: Why Albania? I remind you that the European
regulation" on new border procedures as part of the EU Pact on
Migration and Asylum "has given Italy, as a border country, the
objective of creating by 2026 over 8,000 places available for
the detention/hosting of migrants", Piantedosi told the
parliamentary Schengen committee.
"We must therefore organize to create them", said the interior
minister. (ANSA).
