Number of Italian centenarians up 30% in 10 years - Istat

Over 22,000 aged 10 over at start of this year says Istat

(ANSA) - ROME, NOV 7 - Istat said Thursday that the number of Italian centenarians has increased by more than 30% over the last 10 years.
    The national statistics agency said that 22,552 people resident in Italy were aged 100 or over on January 1, 2024, compared to 17,252 in 2014.
    It said that 81% of the centenarians were women.
    Istat said Italy had 677 residents aged 105 years or more at the start of this year and 21 'super-centenarians' who had reached the 110-year threshold, including only one man. The agency said Italy's oldest person was a woman living in Emilia-Romagna, who turned 114 in October.
    It said the oldest man was a Basilicata resident who turned 110 last month. (ANSA).
