(ANSA) - ROME, NOV 18 - The centre left has retained Emila Romagna and also looks like edging the race in Umbria to take the region from the centre right, according to exit polls and projections after the regional elections Sunday and Monday.
Centre left candidate for Emilia-Romagna governor Michele de Pascale is on 55% while his centre-right rival Elene Ugolini has 40% according to the projections.
De Pascale has notched a clear win, pollsters said.
Emilia-Romagna has never been won by a centre-right candidate in the 54 year history of Italy's regions.
The race to be Umbria's next governor is a lot closer between incumbent centre-right candidate Donatella Tesei and centre-left challenger Stefania Proietti.
But Proietti is ahead by 50.1% to 47.1% in the latest projection.
