(ANSA) - ROME, NOV 18 - Centre-left Umbria governor candidate Stefania Proietti has 50.1% and incumbent centre-right Governor Donatella Tesei 47.
The projection is on 49% of actual votes counted.
Proiett's slim edge has widened with respect to the first projection, while earlier exit polls put Tesei a tad ahead.
But the race still looks too close to call, pollsters said.
The other region up for grabs, Emilia-Romagna, has been held by the centre left's Michele de Pascale.
Centre-left Democratic Party (PD) leader Elly Schlein has hailed de Pascale's win and an "extraordinary" performance by the PD.
