(ANSA) - ROME, NOV 19 - Pompeii's House of the Little
Fountain is set to re-open Thursday after a long restoration,
the archaeological park at the ancient Roman city near Naples
has announced.
Located in an important position along Via di Mercurio, the
house is organized in such a way that from the entrance it is
possible to see the splendid fountain that decorates the garden
at the back, and to intuit the high social status of the owner.
The precious fountain is covered in colored mosaics and shells
and is adorned with a bronze statue of a fisherman and a Cupid
(exhibited in copies).
All around, the side walls of the peristyle are frescoed with
large landscape views made a few years before the 79 AD
eruption, among which the representation of a maritime city is
notable, a very popular theme in the representations of the time
and particularly suitable for the decoration of gardens.
The initiative "Telling the construction sites" running until
April 17, 2025, will allow people to learn about 20 construction
sites at Pompeii and nearby Oplontis.
They will run from the House of the Small Fountain to Excavation
IX-10, and from the House of the Atrium to the Insula
Occidentalis.
And then, again, the Baths of the Forum, the Insula
Meridionalis, the Necropolis of Porta Stabia, the Insula of the
Chaste Lovers, the construction site of Civita Giuliana, the
House of Leda, the Granaries of the Forum, the house of Caesius
Blandus, the house of Giulius Polybius and various other
construction sites. (ANSA).
