(ANSA) - ROME, NOV 20 - Naples Mayor Gaetano Manfredi on
Wednesday was elected new president of the national association
of Italian municipalities (ANCI) at a national assembly in
Turin.
Ascoli Piceno Mayor Marco Fioravanti was also unanimously voted
president of the National Council of ANCI.
Manfredi, a 60-year-old university professor, was elected mayor
of the southern port city in 2021 with the support of a
centre-left coalition.
Speaking on the sidelines of his election on Wednesday, Manfredi
said Premier Giorgia Meloni should see in mayors "loyal,
concrete interlocutors who want to be the government's
privileged interlocutors", promising "serious and unitary
proposals" and expressing the wish for "direct, strong" talks
with the prime minister and the government. (ANSA).
