(ANSA) - ROME, NOV 24 - Calls to the 1522 anti-violence and
anti-stalking helpline of premier office's equal opportunities
department amounted to a 48,000 in the first nine months of
2024, an increase of 57% with respect to the 30,581 registered
in the equivalent period last year, according to figures
released on Sunday.
The number includes contacts made via app and chat messages.
The data shows that there has been a big increase in use of the
helpline since the shocking femicide of 22-year-old of Giulia
Cecchettin, who was brutally stabbed to death by her
ex-boyfriend in November 2023.
There was a peak in calls to the helpline in November and
December last year, with an average of 800 contacts per day.
