(ANSA) - ROME, NOV 29 - Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister
Antonio Tajani on Friday said he will travel to Cairo on Monday
to take part in a conference for the reconstruction of Gaza.
"On Monday I will be in Cairo to take part in a major conference
on the reconstruction of Gaza, but there can be no
reconstruction without guaranteeing the survival of the
population", Tajani told a Forum on agriculture and nutrition
organized by farmers' union Coldiretti, thanking the
organization for its involvement in the Food for Gaza project.
The minister also said another Italian cargo plane on Thursday
brought food provided for free by Coldiretti "which will be
distributed directly to Gaza residents with the support of
Israel and the PNA".
The press office of the Egyptian government had announced
Thursday on its website that an international conference to
support and boost humanitarian aid for the Gaza Strip would be
held Monday with regional and international actors.
"The conference will be held at the level of foreign ministers",
it said, with the participation of representatives of countries
in the region and beyond and of international institutions and
organizations including the United Nations Relief and Works
Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).
Food for Gaza is an initiative Italy has spearheaded to get food
aid to Palestinian civilians, launched last March together with
UN agencies WFP and FAO, IFRC (International Federation of Red
Cross and Red Crescent Societies), and the civil protection.
