(ANSA) - ROME, DEC 22 - Romina Gelardi has filed a complaint
with prosecutors in Palermo after she said her 76-year-old
mother Maria Ruggia was left untreated on a stretcher in the ER
of the local Ingrassia Hospital for eight days before she died
on December 20, investigative sources said on Sunday.
"They left my mother on a stretcher in the emergency room of the
Ingrassia Hospital from December 10 until December 18", she
said.
"She was moved to the General Medicine ward only on the 19th,
when she was already critically ill and could have contracted an
infection in the hospital.
"But at that point it was too late.
"She died on December 20", said Gelardi, who is represented by
attorney Andrea Dell'Aira.
Police have seized medical charts and an autopsy will be carried
out as part of the investigation to determine the cause of
death. (ANSA).
