Essayist and literary critic Walter Pedullà dies at 94

(ANSA) - ROME, DEC 27 - The essayist and literary critic Walter Pedullà has died at 94, his family said Friday.
    Pedullà passed away in his home in Rome after a long illness, they said.
    Condolences immediately came from state broadcaster Rai, with which he worked from 1977 to 1992 on the Board of Directors of the public service, of which he was also president from 1992 to 1993.
    Born in Siderno on the outskirts of Reggio Calabria on October 10, 1930, Pedullà gained literary fame and also enjoyed a political career after graduating in Italian literature at Messina.
    He also taught History of Modern and Contemporary Italian Literature at Rome's La Sapienza from 1958 to 2005 - in the first 8 years as assistant to the distinguished Giacomo Debenedetti, his teacher. (ANSA).
