(ANSA) - ROME, DEC 30 - Iran on Monday officially confirmed
the arrest of Italian journalist Cecilia Sala, State media
reported.
Rome-born Sala, 29, Il Foglio's freelance correspondent and a
podcaster for Chioa News, was reportedly arrested and taken to
Tehran's notorious Evin Prison on December 19, three days after
a Swiss-Iranian businessman was arrested in Milan on US charges
of drone parts trafficking.
There has been speculation that the Islamic republic wants to
swap them.
Italy is working to free Sala and bring her home, and has
stressed the need for discretion on the part of the media.
