(ANSA) - ROME, JAN 8 - The Iranian culture ministry said after the release of Italian journalist Cecilia Sala Wednesday that Iran always protected the rights of foreign reporters.
"The policy of the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Orientation (of Iran) has always been based on welcoming the travel and legal activities of international journalists, on increasing the presence of foreign media in the country and on protecting their legal rights and this approach is also being seriously followed in the fourteenth government" (led by President Masoud Pezeshkian)," said the ministry, quoted by state news agency IRNA.
The statement reiterated that the Italian embassy in Tehran was informed of Sala's arrest and during her detention the possibility of consular access and telephone contact with her family was provided. (ANSA).
