(ANSA) - ROME, JAN 9 - The defence lawyers of Mohammad
Abedini Najafabadi, an Iranian engineer arrested at the city's
Malpensa airport last month on a warrant issued by the US, have
made a fresh request for house arrest, sources said on Thursday.
The request is for house arrest with an electronic bracelet at a
different Milan apartment than that used for the previous
request, the sources said.
Abedini, who is being held at Milan's Opera prison, is accused
of exporting drone parts allegedly used to kill three US
servicemen in Jordan a year ago.
Prosecutors opposed the previous request saying there was a
danger of Abedini taking flight.
The previous request did not contemplate an electronic bracelet.
Italian journalist Cecilia Sala was arrested in Iran three days
after Abedini's detention.
She is back in Italy after being released by the Iranian
authorities on Wednesday. (ANSA).
