(ANSA) - ROME, JAN 9 - A stable Syria is a common goal a month after the Assad regime fell to Islamist-led rebels, Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani told his Turkish counterpart Hakan Fidan in a phone conversation ahead of a Thursday night summit in Rome of the so-called Quintet - United States, France, Germany, the United Kingdom and Italy - to be also attended by the European Union's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas.
The summit comes on the eve of a visit by Tajani to Damascus Friday.
The conversation between Tajani and Fidan , diplomatic sources said, revealed a common desire to work together to promote an inclusive political process in Syria that will lead to the complete pacification and stabilization of the country.
In this sense, the two ministers agreed on the importance of accompanying the de facto Syrian authorities in the ongoing transition process and on the need to support the country in addressing the socio-economic challenges at the end of the civil conflict.
The two ministers also agreed to maintain close coordination on the Syrian dossier, with Tajani assuring his counterpart of his availability to highlight Turkey's requests during Thursday evening's Quintet meeting. (ANSA).
