(ANSA) - ROME, JAN 9 - US President-elect Donald Trump will
not abandon Ukraine, Premier Giorgia Meloni said Thursday saying
it would be a mistake if he did.
"Frankly, I do not foresee a disengagement by Trump in Ukraine,"
she told an end of year press conference.
"I do not read this from his statements.
"He has spoken on several occasions of 'peace with force' and I
have always maintained that the only way to force Russia to sit
at a negotiating table was to build a difficult situation on the
ground.
"Trump has the ability to mix diplomacy and deterrence and I
foresee that this will also be the case this time.
"He can move forward with the solution, but I do not foresee
that this means abandoning Ukraine, (which) would be a mistake
from my point of view". (ANSA).
