(ANSA) - ROME, JAN 10 - A nationwide rail and local transport strike called by grassroots unions appeared to have almost no impact on major cities Friday morning.
The first transport strike to be organized on a Friday in 2025 was expected to affect local and rail transportation as well as air travel.
However, as of Friday morning, all subway lines in Rome remained open, although the local transport strike had been scheduled to take place between 8:30 am and 12:30 pm.
In Milan, public transport operated regularly "on all lines", said the local transport company ATM with regular metro and bus services.
Local transport services also operated regularly in other major cities including Bologna and Naples.
No changes were reported in the morning to the circulation of Frecce, Intercity and Trenitalia Regional trains.
2024 was a record year for transport strikes with 622 stoppages, many of them transport strikes on Fridays. (ANSA).
