(ANSA) - ROME, JAN 12 - Italian doctors are increasingly dissatisfied with the insufficient resources allocated by the latest budget law and are considering a strike, Italian federation of doctors' guilds (FNOMCEO) head Filippo Anelli told ANSA on Sunday.
"The discontent of doctors is growing.
"The economic resources allocated with the latest budget law are not enough and salaries remain among the lowest in Europe, close to those of Eastern countries, with many professionals choosing to leave.
"On January 25, doctors' unions and the Guild will meet to decide new forms of mobilization.
"We are moving towards a strike of the category", Anelli said.
The federation's chief then urged Health Minister Orazio Schillaci to meet with organizations representing healthcare professionals.
"Schillaci should immediately open a permanent negotiation with medical organizations", he said.
Last November, unions representing Italian doctors and nurses staged a nationwide 24-hour strike to protest against the government's 2025 budget bill which they said allocated "insufficient resources" to pay rises to staff and complain about an overall lack of investment in healthcare funding.
