(ANSA) - ROME, JAN 16 - Italy's world number one and
defending champion Jannik Sinner came from a set down to beat
local boy Tristan Schoolkate 4-6 6-4 6-1 6-3 and reach the third
round of the Australian Open on Thursday.
Australian wildcard entry Schoolkate, ranked 136th, broke the
23-year-old Italian late in the first set to take the upper hand
and put up a spirited fight until he was broken deep in the
second set.
After that, Sinner cruised to victory.
Earlier on Thursday Italy's Lorenzo Sonego beat Brazilian Joao
Fonseca, widely considered the rising star of international
tennis, 6-7 6-3 6-1 3-6 6-3 to progress too.
Lorenzo Musetti is also in the third round after beating
Canadian Denis Shapovalov 7-6, 7-6, 6-2
But Matteo Berrettini's tournament is over after he lost 7-6 2-6
6-3 7-3 to Holger Rune. (ANSA).
