Italy is no one's enemy Tajani tells Lavrov

(ANSA) - ROME, JAN 25 - Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani on Saturday told his Russian counterpart that Italy was no one's enemy after the Russian foreign ministry said Friday that Rome can't be involved in a possible Ukraine peace process due to its 'anti-Russian' stance.
Moscow said relations between Russia and Italy are going through the deepest crisis since World War II, and Rome is to blame, according to Tass.
"We are no one's enemy, we are peacemakers," Tajani said on the sidelines of a event for his Forza Italia party in Milan.
"It does not mean that we are enemies of Russia if we say that Russia must respect international law.
"We are not at war with Russia, but we defend Ukraine's right to be an independent state.
"All of us in the EU will have a role in peace building and, together with the US, we will support policies that lead to achieving the goal of a just peace, so not a Ukrainian defeat". Italy has been a staunch supporter of Kyiv and has sent considerable military aid to it since the Russian invasion.
