(ANSA) - ROME, JAN 27 - Two boys aged two and three who died in a shipwreck in Malta's search and rescue zone were taken to the Sicilian island of Lampedusa, local authorities said Monday.
The bodies, which were taken to the mortuary chamber in Cala Pisana on Sunday night, were recovered in Malta's search-and-rescue zone, some 53 nautical miles from the Sicilian island, by a ship operated by the German NGO Sea Punk.
The rescue took place early on Sunday.
The victims and the shipwreck's 15 survivors were then transferred to a coast guard vessel.
The parents of the two toddlers are among the survivors.
According to the testimony of survivors, who are from Nigeria and Cameroon and include a minor, two of the migrant boat's passengers are missing, including a one-year-old boy. (ANSA).
