New wave of pro-Russia cyber attacks on Italian sites

(ANSA) - ROME, FEB 18 - A pro-Russian hacker group, Noname057(16), staged a new wave of cyberattacks on Italian institutions on Tuesday, targetting the websites of several ministries, the Carabinieri and Finance police forces and some transport companies, among others.
    As with Monday's attacks on some financial institutions, airports and port authorities, the group staged DDOS (distributed denial of service) attacks aiming to make the sites unreachable by flooding them with access requests.
    As with Monday's attacks, the National Cybersecurity Agency's sensors warned the targets in good time of the offensive and it had little effect.
    The hacker group linked Monday's attack to President Sergio Mattarella recently comparing Russia to the Third Reich in relation to its invasion of Ukraine.
    Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said Monday that Mattarella's comments will not go "without consequences".
