After Milan and Atalanta, Juve exit UCL in playoffs too

(ANSA) - ROME, FEB 20 - After AC Milan and Atalanta on Tuesday, Juventus exited the Champions League at the playoffs stage too on Wednesday, losing 3-1 after extra time at PSV Eindhoven to crash out 4-3 on aggregate.
It means Italy's only representative in the last 16 of Europe's premier club competition will be Inter, who qualified directly via the league stage. Holding a 2-1 advantage from the first leg, Juve let the Dutch champions do the running initially.
Veteran Croatia winger Ivan Perisic put the hosts ahead on the night on 53 minutes only for Timothy Weah to restore the Turin giants' aggregate advantage shortly after.
But PSV's Moroccan midfielder Ismael Saibari then scored from close range and defender Ryan Flamingo struck on the first period of extra time to send the hosts through.
Among other things, the playoff exits mean Italy has little chance of keeping the extra place the nation has in this season's Champions League after finishing top of the UEFA coefficients last term. (ANSA).
