Italian Jews hail Rome uni pulling Sinwar book presentation

(ANSA) - ROME, FEB 28 - Italy's Jews on Friday hailed a decision by authorities at Rome's La Sapienza University to cancel the presentation by the Movement of Palestinian Students of a book by late Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar.
The book, The Thorn and the Carnation, is variously described in blurbs as "not merely a work of fiction but a profound testament to the enduring spirit of Gaza" and "a compelling novel penned by Yahya Al-Sinwar throughout his lengthy incarceration in Israeli prisons. " It was set to be presented by the Palestinian students at La Sapienza's physics faculty Friday.
The president of the Union of Italian Jewish Communities, Noemi Di Segni, welcomed the event's cancellation telling ANSA: "It is good that the danger has been understood." She said that the university and its dean, medical doctor Antonella Polimeni, had shown "lucidity and coherence, not to be taken for granted." Di Segni went on: "The challenge within the universities remains to stem boycotts, distortions and forms of dialectics aimed at spreading hatred or inciting terror.
"And it remains to be understood who finances them and who supports them".
Sinwar, leader of Hamas in the Gaza Strip, was killed in a firefight with Israeli troops in mid-October. (ANSA).
