Limited growth for ITA - Wilson

Ready to fill space left by ITA says Ryanair's CEO

Redazione Ansa

(ANSA) - ROME, MAR 20 - Ryanair CEO Eddie Wilson told ANSA on Thursday that he saw limited possibilities for ITA Airways's growth and that the Irish low-cost airline was interested in filling its space.
Wilson said ITA is a smaller company compared to Ryanair, which has never operated with a 'point-to-point strategy' like the low-cost carrier.
Noting he saw limited growth for ITA, the CEO said the low-cost airline was ready to fill its spaces.
Wilson also said ITA faces a difficult situation connected to Rome's airports.
Ciampino has a limit of 65 daily flights while Fiumicino is an expensive airport, said Wilson, describing the situation as bad news for Rome and ITA while Ryanair wishes to grow.
Lufthansa in January finalised its acquisition of a 41% stake in the Italian state-owned airline in a deal designed to boost the carrier's presence in the southern European market. (ANSA).
