Libyan militia chief wanted by ICC is in Italy - dissident

(ANSA) - ROME, MAR 21 - Abdul Ghani al-Kikli, the head of a Libyan militia who is wanted by the International Criminal Court (ICC), is currently in Italy, according to Libyan dissident Husam El Gomati.
    El Gomati posted a photo on X which he said showed al-Kikli, with other people, around a Rome hospital bed visiting Libyan Minister of Internal Affairs Adel Jumaa Amer, who is being treated here following a recent assassination attempt. "Abdul Ghani Al-Kikli, a notorious militia leader from Tripoli, accused of torture, enforced disappearances, and unlawful killings, is now in Italy," El Gomati said in the post.
    Al-Kikli is reported to have landed at Rome's Fiumicino airport at 6pm on Thursday.
    The Al-Kikli case follows that of Libyan General Osama Almasri, who was arrested by Italian authorities in Turin on January 19 on an ICC warrant on charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity but was flown back to Tripoli on a State flight two days later after a Rome court ordered his release over a technicality.
    The release was ordered after Justice Minister Nordio did not back the arrest.
    Premier Giorgia Meloni, Nordio - over his alleged refusal to perform public acts - Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi and Cabinet Undersecretary with the intelligence brief Alfredo Mantovano are under investigation in the Almasri case after attorney Luigi Li Gotti filed a criminal complaint against them.
    Nordio has blamed errors in the ICC warrants, which he described as a "mess", while Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi has said Rome was forced to expel the general as a danger to Italy.
