Foreign policy set by PM and FM - Tajani on Salvini-Vance

(ANSA) - ROME, MAR 22 - Italian foreign policy is set by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, the foreign minister and deputy premier said Saturday in reference to a phone conversation Friday between Deputy Premier and Transport Minister Matteo Salvini and US Vice President J.D.
    Vance in which the rightwing League leader and he US official agreed that Salvini should visit the White House soon.
    "Foreign policy is made by the prime minister and the foreign minister. The rest are legitimate personal initiatives. These are the official positions of the government", stated Tajani, on the sidelines of a convention of his centre-right post Berlusconi Forza Italia (FI) party in Palermo.
    "Then - added the minister, referring to the phone call between Salvini and Vance - it is legitimate if a minister wants to speak with representatives of the administrations of various countries.
    "However, I repeat, the political line for foreign affairs is given by the prime minister and the foreign minister".
    Meloni leads the national conservative Brothers of Italy (FdI) party, the biggest party in the ruling rightwing coalition ahead of Salvini's League and Tajani's FI. (ANSA).
