Spalletti serene after Italy exit Nations League with pride

(ANSA) - ROME, MAR 24 - Italy coach Luciano Spalletti said he was confident about Italy's World Cup qualification campaign after his side exited the Nations League at the quarter-finals stage, with Sunday's 3-3 draw with Germany in Dortmund condemning them to a 5-4 aggregate defeat.
The Azzurri looked set for a drumming when they conceded three goals in the first half, including an embarrassing score by Jamal Musiala, who was able to tap the ball into an empty net after Jamal Musiala took a quick corner while Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma was off his line complaining about something to the referee.
But Italy came back strongly in the second half, with Moise Kean notching a double and Giacomo Raspadori scoring a penalty before the clock put an end to their hopes of taking the tie to extra time.
The defeat means that Italy will be in European World Cup qualifying group A along with Norway, Israel, Estonia and Moldova.
"We are serene," Spalletti said when asked about the World Cup qualifiers.
"We know what to do and what to say".
Italy failed to qualify for the last two World Cups under Spalletti's predecessors, Roberto Mancini and Gian Piero Ventura. (ANSA).
