(ANSA) - ROME, MAR 25 - The European Commission will present a package of specific measures to support the wine sector on Friday, March 28, following the recommendations from the High-Level Dialogue with industry stakeholders, which concluded its work in December.
This was confirmed by European Commissioner for Agriculture, Christophe Hansen, during the EU Agriculture and Fisheries Council in Brussels. Speaking at a press conference after the first part of the meeting, the Luxembourgish commissioner stated that the upcoming support measures will enable wine producers to manage their production more effectively and flexibly.
Hansen acknowledged that "the wine sector is crucial for our rural economy, our landscapes, and is deeply tied to our traditions. The EU is the global leader in wine production, accounting for 60% of global output. However, the sector is facing challenges due to changing consumption patterns, climate change, and export volatility, as well as the geopolitical tensions we are currently experiencing." He explained that the measures will help the sector "adapt to these new and complex realities while also seizing new opportunities." Outlining the next steps on the EU agricultural agenda, Hansen announced that the first simplification package, related to the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP), is expected by the end of April or early May.
#IMCAP "Co-funded by the European Union. However, the views expressed belong solely to the author(s) and do not necessarily reflect those of the European Union. Neither the European Union nor the granting authority can be held responsible." (ANSA).
