(ANSA) - Rome, August 1 - The lingering effects of Italy's
recession and the "crazy weather the country has endured so far
this summer, with frequent rain and storms, has caused a slump
in seaside tourism this season.
An association representing Italian beach establishments,
the Sindacato Italiano Balneari, said Fridayt that its members
saw customer numbers drop by up to 70% in June and July with
respect to the same period in 2013.
It added that revenues were down by around 400 million
euros.
Italian beach establishments rent sunbed, deck chairs and
sun umbrellas, provide life guards and often feature bars or
restaurants.
