Milan bourse gains 2.2%

MPS gains over 8% after return to profit

(ANSA) - Milan, January 29 - The Milan stock exchange bounced back in early trading on Friday, regaining some of Thursday's big losses. The benchmark FTSE Mib index, which shed 3. 49% on Thursday, climbed 2.2% to reach 18,590 points. The gains were spearheaded by bank stocks, which took much of the pounding earlier in the week. Troubled lender Monte dei Paschi di Siena was up 8.17% after it presented financial results showing a return to profit after five years on Thursday. Banco Popolare and BPM, which are poised for a merger, were up 2.65% and 2.88% respectively.
