(ANSA) - ROME, MAY 9 - Italy's Antitrust Authority said
Thursday that it has fined six major car rental companies a
combined total of over 18 million euros for contractual clauses
that infringe on consumer rights.
The companies penalized are Avis Budget Italia, Hertz Italiana,
Centauro Rent a Car Italy, Green Motion Italia, Noleggiare and
Drivalia Leasys Rent.
The authority said that, under the clauses, the companies were
imposing "unjustified" fees on customers for handling fines and
for the failure to pay tolls or parking spaces.
The authority also ordered the companies to remove these clauses
from the contract forms "because they can cause a significant
imbalance in the rights and obligations of consumers" . (ANSA).
