(ANSA) - ROME, MAY 24 - Fincantieri is to build two US Navy
frigates in an over one-billion-dollar deal, the Italian
shipbuilder said Friday.
The US Defense department granted Fincantieri's US subsidiary
Fincantieri Marinette Marine (FMM) a contract to build the fifth
and sixth Constellation Class frigate for the US Navy.
The contract for the first frigate and an option for another
nine ships, dating back to 2020, is worth $5.5 billion overall.
The group's proposal is based on the FREMM frigate platform,
deemed the best in the world on the technological plane, on
which is based as programme of 10 units for the Italian Navy,
which the group is completing in its Italian shipyards. (ANSA).
